Welcome from Tig Mooney
I am absolutely thrilled to be the founding Headmaster of Wycombe Abbey School Hangzhou and equally delighted that I have been given the opportunity to bring such an excellent, academic, bilingual, holistic British boarding education to the children of Hangzhou and beyond. It will be our mission to ensure that Wycombe Abbey School Hangzhou not only delivers outstanding academic education but also provides the wide range of confidence-building extra-curricular activities which will enable our pupils to enter the very best universities in the world and lead happy, successful and productive lives in the future.
As I am sure many already know, Wycombe Abbey is one of the leading independent schools in the United Kingdom and consistently tops the league tables both for IGCSE and A Level results. Wycombe Abbey School Hangzhou aims to replicate that success by offering a bilingual curriculum based on the Chinese National Curriculum and the IGCSE and A-Level programmes. It is our intention to become the leading international school for boys and girls from Kindergarten to Grade 12 in the region, if not the country.
While recognising that academic success is a major priority for our school, one of our key strengths at Wycombe Abbey School Hangzhou will be the wellbeing of our pupils; it is important to remember that pupils perform best when they feel secure and happy. Wycombe Abbey will be a happy place where boys and girls forge lifelong friendships with their peers.
We will also ensure that all pupils engage fully in sport, art, music and drama during their time with us, because, as we know, the very best education includes enthusiastic participation in all these areas.
The nurturing family care and support our pupils receive in Wycombe Abbey School Hangzhou’s boarding houses will enable them to be independent and resilient and prepared for life at university and beyond.
I also believe it to be essential that a school should have leaders and a team of teachers whom parents and pupils can trust. I have been a Headmaster since 1997 and have led five schools in the UK and Asia. It is my intention to employ very high calibre teaching staff who will ensure Wycombe Abbey School Hangzhou achieves its mission.
